Our Story

How it all started...

The Church of Christ in Franklin began in September 1833, later becoming the "Fourth Avenue Church of Christ." In the late 1940s, the congregation established a new presence in western Franklin through a successful 1949 tent meeting in the Lyndhurst section of town. The elders purchased a lot at Forrest Street and West End Street where they built a small brick building. On June 4, 1950, members from Fourth Avenue formed the West End Church of Christ (now West Main Church of Christ). This congregation subsequently underwent two more name changes through the decades: Royal Heights Church of Christ and Chestnut Lane Church of Christ. In November of 1996 the church came "full circle" when moving to our current location on Franklin Road as the "Franklin Church of Christ".

All the dates and name changes above is just skeletal view. The real "meat" of our "story" are about all the relationships: both the victories and struggles that have come and gone. Through it all we've been learning how to grow in Christ to become more like Him.

Our Story Today

If you're out and about throughout the year, you'll see our members in the community serving our Franklin and surrounding neighbors: going into jails and prisons to share the gospel of Jesus; providing free new coats for our Franklin children; spending Thanksgiving with the elderly of our community, etc.. In other words, our church family is more than just about "going to church". We want as a body of believers to let our lights shine for our Savior that our neighbors see past our "good works" and glorify our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:14-16). Would you like to join us in our unfolding story?

Where we are headed...

It's all about Jesus. Drawing closer to our Savior who suffered and died for us so that we would not only be saved from our sins, but that we would die to our old sinful man and be transformed into His image. That's the reason why we believe that no matter what the struggles of life are (and they are so many!) The Answer... Jesus.
